How it works
Physical size is pixels ÷ DPI, so a 900 × 900 px design at 300 DPI prints 3.00 × 3.00 inches, or 76.2 mm square. Each sticker then claims a cell of that size plus twice the bleed and twice the kiss-cut margin, converted from millimetres at 25.4 mm per inch. Sheet yield is floor(sheet width ÷ cell width) × floor(sheet height ÷ cell height), counting whole stickers only. Cost per sticker is the sheet cost divided by that count, and the suggested price is cost × markup.
DPI is the biggest lever, because it sets the printed size: the same 900 px design is 3.00 inches at 300 DPI but 12.50 inches at 72, and yield collapses accordingly. Keep 300 (standard print) unless your printer says otherwise. Bleed and kiss-cut margin are per side and in millimetres, so the 3 mm defaults add 12 mm to each cell dimension, enough on the default 12 × 12 in sheet to drop a 3 inch sticker from sixteen per sheet to nine. Markup defaults to 3×.
Costing counts sheet material only. Ink, laminate, transfer tape, blade wear, packaging, listing and payment fees and your own time all sit outside the model, so treat the suggested price as a floor rather than a number to list at. Yield is a plain rectangular grid with no rotation, nesting or shared cut lines, and it assumes every millimetre of the sheet prints, ignoring the unprintable gripper edge most printers need. A design that just misses fitting loses a whole column.

How much bleed should I add to a sticker design? +
The tool defaults to 3 mm of bleed plus 3 mm of kiss-cut margin, both applied per side, so 12 mm total is added to each cell dimension. Bleed covers drift between print and cut; the margin is the gap left between neighbouring cuts.
How should I price handmade stickers? +
The suggested figure is material cost per sticker multiplied by the Markup field, which defaults to 3×. At $2.50 a sheet and nine stickers that is $0.278 each and about $0.83 retail, before ink, laminate, packaging and marketplace fees, which are not included.
Does exporting at a higher DPI make my sticker sharper? +
It makes the print smaller rather than sharper unless you enlarge the file, since at 600 DPI the same pixels cover half the width they did at 300. Choose the DPI your printer expects, then check the printed size reported before exporting.
Print resolution sets the minimum pixel dimensions
A physical size and a print resolution together determine the pixel dimensions a file needs. The 300 dpi option is the standard for commercial print; 150 is adequate for large items viewed at distance, and 72 or 96 are screen conventions that will look visibly soft on anything printed small.
Upscaling a low-resolution file to reach the pixel count does not add detail — it invents it, and printed stickers show that clearly at close viewing distance.
Bleed, safe area and cut tolerance
Cutting is mechanical and has a tolerance, typically a millimetre or two. Bleed — extending the artwork past the cut line — is what prevents a white edge when the cut lands slightly inside the design, and a safe area inside the cut line keeps important content from being trimmed when it lands slightly outside.
That tolerance matters most on designs with a border, where a cut a millimetre off-centre makes the border visibly uneven on one side. Borderless designs hide the same error entirely, which is why they are more forgiving for small runs.
Die-cut shapes with fine detail cost more and cut less accurately than simple outlines, so intricate silhouettes are worth simplifying at small sizes.
