Material quantity calculators for concrete, paint, lumber, tiles and HVAC.

What these tools are for

Material estimating is arithmetic over geometry, and the arithmetic is the easy half. What decides whether a delivery is right is the allowances: waste from cuts, the overlap or grout gap between units, and the fact that materials are sold in fixed increments you cannot buy a fraction of.

Waste factor scales with pattern complexity rather than area. A straight tile layout might waste 10%; a herringbone or diagonal layout on the same floor can waste twice that, because every edge cut is at an angle and the offcut is rarely reusable.

Concrete is the least forgiving because you cannot easily add to a partial pour. Round up, order for the void plus a margin, and remember that bag yields are for the mixed volume rather than the dry contents.
