What these tools are for
The recurring mistake in freelance pricing is treating an hourly rate as a salary divided by 2,080. It is not, and the gap is not small. A salaried hour is paid; a freelance hour has to cover unpaid admin, sales, sick days, holidays, equipment, insurance, and self-employment tax that an employer would otherwise pay half of.
Billable utilisation is the number that decides everything else. Someone billing 60% of a working year has to recover their whole cost base from those hours, so the headline rate sits far above what the equivalent salary suggests. These tools work backwards from the income you need rather than forwards from a rate that feels defensible.
They model your own cost base — they cannot tell you what a market will pay. That is a question for your pipeline, not a calculator.
